RIDE FOR A REASON is an annual bike ride from Oakland to Sacramento to advocate for public education, and raise essential funds for school enrichment programs in Oakland. Last year, almost 250 riders pedaled from Oakland to the steps of the State Capitol to advocate for greater funding for education and reform for the way that California funds its public schools.
Parents, teachers, students, and community members will ride again, April 27, 2019 to raise funds and public awareness in this cause. Many elective classes and enrichment programs depend entirely on community fundraising. But community fundraising alone can’t do the deep work needed to fully support all schools. That’s why we ride to Sacramento — to bring attention to underfunded schools.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! WE NEED TO REGISTER 250 RIDERS AND RAISE $100,000! The funds we raise will be split evenly between Claremont Middle, Oakland Technical High, Emerson Elementary, and Oakland International High. You can help out by riding either 45 miles from Vacaville to Sacramento, or all 109 miles from Oakland to Sacramento. You can pledge money to a rider you know, or make a general pledge to all of them.
Our support remains critical. California once had the best schools in the nation. Working together we can restore public education in California.
