Support Oakland Public Libraries – Vote Yes on Measure D

YES on Measure D: You can help keep libraries open!

Have you noticed that for many Claremont kids, the Rockridge Branch of the Oakland Public Library is basically a de facto after school program? This is the same throughout Oakland. But the Oakland Public Library is in trouble.

Measure D is a $75 parcel tax that will fund libraries in a way they haven’t been funded since before the recession. If Measure D does not pass, branches will close and libraries that remain open will likely reduce hours and staffing.

If Measure D passes, the funds will keep all libraries open, branches will be open more days (branches are open only 5 days a week right now), hours open will increase, and programs and services will be maintained or expanded. A neighborhood without a library is a frightening reality to consider. Please vote for Measure D on June 5 or in your mail-in ballot. It you’d like to get involved with the campaign, here’s a handful of ways you can do it:

  1. Attend our house party on Thurs, May 5th: http://evite.me/7rYuFTPaYB(hosted by past, present, and future Claremont families) You will meet OPL Librarians and learn all about the measure.
  2. Email or use social media to tell your Oaklander friends about the measure and ask them to support it. Copy the above message and find more info here: https://www.protectoaklandlibraries.org
  3. Put a Measure D sign in your yard. Go to https://www.protectoaklandlibraries.org/joinand sign up for one or contact Elizabeth Falkner who has a stash on her porch.
  4. Make a donation to the campaign to help pay for signs and other efforts:  https://www.protectoaklandlibraries.org/donate

Thanks for your support!
