Claremont Middle School is rising on the efforts of its Parent-Teacher Association. By offering ways for families connect to their children’s school experiences, the PTA is helping to build the kind of family-school partnerships that lead to student and school success.


• By producing Claremont’s the weekly email Knightline, as well as the Claremont web site, the PTA makes sure all families know what’s going on at school and have a chance to participate.


• The PTA coordinates volunteer help for newsletter and report card mailings, garden and school beautification efforts, art media lab and music events, library support, the media lab, staff appreciation efforts, fundraising events, and community outreach. PTA volunteers also operate a salad bar for the students during lunch.


  1. Any initiative to enhance learning or climate is eligible for funding.  Maximum awards are $500 per individual per year.  The first round of grants will be awarded on November 30.  To be considered this cycle, applications must be submitted by November 20.  All applicants must be PTA members.  To learn more, please contact Mike Napolitano at mnapolitano@waterboards.ca.gov or 510-655-4725.MiniGrantFinal2009-10.pdf


• Monthly PTA meetings offer opportunities to hear from Claremont staff and guest speakers, as well as other parents, about issues affecting student learning and the school environment. Meetings are on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 pm. (Come at 6 pm for pizza and beverages.) Babysitting and Spanish interpretation are provided.

Giving and Fundraising


The PTA holds several fundraisers to benefit school programs throughout the year, including PE uniform sales, a spring festival, a silent auction, and participation in eScrip. As a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation, the PTA may also receive tax-deductible donations.


Claremont Fund Drive. You can make a tax deductible donation online to the Claremont PTA, click here or send donations to Claremont PTA at Claremont Middle School, 5750 College Ave., Oakland, CA 94618.


Silent Auction. The silent auction is the PTA's biggest fundraiser. This year's event is on Feb. 21, 2009, at Thelma Harris Art Gallery. For more information, click here.


Spring Fling community festival. This annual event offers something for everyone—food and arts booths, carnival games, a performance stage, and a silent auction. Check the Broadcast for updates on this year’s plans.


eScrip.
