Full Tardy Policy
On Nov. 26, Claremont began implementing a new tardy policy. Students who arrive at their 1st period class after 8:35 am must present a pink slip to be admitted to the classroom. If they don’t have one, they will be sent to the main office to get one. Students who are tardy without an excuse will have to serve detention after school. Details are spelled out below:
For students who come to school more than 5 minutes late we will take the following steps:
Student goes directly to office to get a pink slip.
If student has a written excuse for their tardiness, they are excused for the tardiness.
If not, student is given a pink slip; their name is written in the Tardy Log; and they are sent immediately to class.
Attendance Office will call home to all students on the Tardy Log.
If the parent excuses the tardy, the child’s name is crossed off the Tardy Log.
If no answer or parent excuse, the child’s name is left on the Tardy Log.
Attendance Office calculates the amount of time students on the Tardy Log will have to serve detention that day after school.
If student arrives less than 30 minutes late to school, student will serve 30 minute detention.
If student arrives more than 30 minutes late, student will serve 60 minutes.
Students who are repeatedly tardy (3 or more times) will serve 60 minutes.
On Wednesdays, there is no after-school detention, so students on the Tardy Log for Wednesday will serve on
Thursday.
We will also not have detention on days when there are Faculty Meetings. Tardy Log students on these days will be held over for the next day.
Attendance office identifies on the Tardy Log what each student has for 8th period class.
Starting at 2:50, staff will collect students on the Tardy Log from class and place them in the Library.
Students will not need to collect books, or go to their locker. They can do that after detention.
At 3:30 PM and then again at 4 PM, staff will escort students to their locker and then off campus.
No child will be excused from detention without a conversation with the parent.
